Bears sign long snapper Laptad after Mannelly's injury

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears have signed long snapper Jake Laptad to a three-year contract to replace injured veteran Patrick Mannelly.

Laptad spent the preseason with the Bears after joining them as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas.

Mannelly ruptured the anterior-cruciate ligament in his left knee on an extra-point attempt midway through the second quarter of Sunday's win over the San Diego Chargers and was placed on injured reserve the following day, bringing his 14th season to an end.

The Bears also signed offensive tackle Josh Davis and cornerback Joshua Moore to the practice squad on Tuesday.
