Ben Roethlisberger made the trip to Kansas City, but we have another sign he is likely to sit one more week.
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Saturday that they have promoted Tyler Murphy from the practice. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Steelers informed Murphy he would back up Landry Jones, making it clearer Big Ben will sit.Â
While still listed as a receiver on the team's official website, Murphy played quarterback in college. He was moved back to the signal-caller's room in the reshuffling following Bruce Gradkowski's injury earlier this year. Murphy ran the scout team in practice this week.
Roethlisberger is still officially questionable; however, it's more likely he returns from his sprained MCL and knee bruise in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
To make room on the roster for Murphy, the Steelers placed cornerback Cortez Allen on IR, ending his season. The veteran defensive back missed the past five games after suffering a knee injury in Week 1.
Update: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told NFL Network's Stacey Dales in a pregame interview that Roethlisberger will be inactive. Landry Jones will start on Sunday. Roethlisberger told Dales that he lobbied to play vs. Chiefs and his goal is to return next week.
