Denver Broncos
Best pick:Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss (Round 7, No. 253 overall)
The skinny: I'm putting Kelly into this slot because I think he has the ability to come in and add legitimate competition at the quarterback spot if he can keep his head on straight. He's quite a lottery ticket for being the final pick of the draft.
Most questionable pick:Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar (Round 3, No. 101 overall)
The skinny: I see the height, weight and speed that the Broncos obviously coveted at the cornerback spot when they took Langley, but he still has a long way to go before he is game-ready, in my estimation. I'm surprised he went so early.
Kansas City Chiefs
Best pick:Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo (Round 3, No. 86 overall)
The skinny: Hunt might have been a perfect fit at this spot in the draft. He has the size to handle a heavier workload if needed and he is a quality zone-scheme back who should complement Spencer Ware nicely.
Most questionable pick:Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech (Round 1, No. 10 overall)
The skinny: Quarterbacks are a crapshoot in the draft. Air Raid quarterbacks face even longer odds. Despite these historical caution signs, the Chiefs traded up from No. 27 to 10 to add Mahomes. He's a gunslinger with a very high upside, but he has loads of work to do before he can be considered pro-ready as a starter.
Los Angeles Chargers
Best pick:Forrest Lamp, OG, Western Kentucky (Round 2, No. 38 overall)
The skinny: Lamp is the best guard in the draft and would have been a first-round tackle if his arms had been longer. The Chargers get a ready-made starter in Round 2 who will improve both the running game and pass protection.
Most questionable pick:Rayshawn Jenkins, S, Miami (Round 4, No. 113 overall)
The skinny: Jenkins looks the part and he's a very willing hitter, but I'm concerned about his ability to handle coverage. The days of just being a box safety are over and if a safety has coverage concerns, teams look to exploit them.
Oakland Raiders
Best pick:David Sharpe, OT, Florida (Round 4, No. 129 overall)
The skinny: The more I watched Sharpe, the more I started to come around on him. He's not always pretty with his feet and he has limitations, but in a draft devoid of tackle depth, the Raiders added a massive player who could become their future starter at right tackle.
Most questionable pick:Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State (Round 1, No. 24 overall)
The skinny: Conley is a talented player, but the Cleveland Police Department is investigating a rape accusation made against him before the draft last month. Conley has vehemently denied the accusation. If he's cleared by the investigation, then the pick could turn out to be great, but the investigation is ongoing. Many teams I spoke with expected a bigger draft fall for Conley.
