This week, College Football 24/7 takes a look at the best and worst picks in the 2016 NFL Draft for every team, concluding today with the AFC South and NFC South teams:
Atlanta Falcons
Best pick:Austin Hooper, TE (Round 3, No. 81 overall)
Skinny: Hooper is a combination tight end who has experience in a pro-style rushing attack and a history of operating on all three levels of the field as a pass-catcher. Hooper is a scheme fit, need fit and is a good overall value with this pick.
Worst pick:Wes Schweitzer, OG (Round 6, No. 195 overall)
Skinny: Schweitzer doesn't have the athletic ability to play tackle, and I'm not sure I see the bend and overall power necessary to move guys around on the interior. He might prove me wrong, but I felt like there were other guards on the board who would have had a better chance to succeed.
Carolina Panthers
Best pick:Vernon Butler, DT (Round 1, No. 30 overall)
Skinny: Butler went ahead of both Jarran Reed and A'Shawn Robinson because he possesses better pass-rushing ability and overall disruptive qualities from the interior. If Butler can take his ability and channel it the way the other Panthers defensive linemen have been able to in the past, look out!
Worst pick:James Bradberry, CB (Round 2, No. 62 overall)
Skinny: I totally understand what GM Dave Gettleman is doing here, as his second- and third-round (Daryl Worley) cornerbacks are both big with length. I simply don't see Bradberry as a second-round talent. From off-coverage, Bradberry might have much greater success as a pro, but his pure cover skills will be tested very early on.
New Orleans Saints
Best pick:Sheldon Rankins, DT (Round 1, No. 12 overall)
Skinny: There is a high ceiling and low floor with Rankins, who should give the Saints an immediate upgrade as an interior rusher along their defensive front. With outstanding hand work and balance, Rankins is going to give the big, clumsy types nightmares.
Worst pick:Daniel Lasco, RB (Round 7, No. 237 overall)
Skinny:Â I liked everything the Saints did with their five picks. I do, however, see Lasco as more of a workout warrior than NFL running back, but it's a seventh-round pick and he has explosion traits. It is so hard to get too down on the pick.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Best pick:Vernon Hargreaves, CB (Round 1, No. 11 overall)
Skinny: The Buccaneers were able to trade back and still get their man in Hargreaves. Well done. Hargreaves might not be the tallest or fastest cornerback in this draft, but he is a relentlessly aggressive cover corner with outstanding foot quickness and ball skills.
Worst pick:Roberto Aguayo, K (Round 2, No. 59 overall)
Skinny: I certainly don't have any issue with the player and I love his accuracy, but Aguayo had just 6 attempts of 50-plus yards during his Florida State career. He was 5 of 9 from 41-plus yards last season, and doesn't have an eye-popping touchback percentage with his kickoffs. I'm surprised the Bucs didn't try to wait this one out a little longer.
