Billings expected to miss season with torn meniscus

It hasn't been a good day for rookie defensive tackles.

On the same morning that Saints first-rounder Sheldon Rankinssuffered a broken leg in practice, Bengals rookie tackle Andrew Billings underwent knee surgery on Monday to repair a torn meniscus, a source informed of the injury told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport reported Tuesday that Billings is expected to miss the entire season.

The rookie was carted off the field last Wednesday during practice, stripping the Bengals of their run-stuffing fourth-rounder out of Baylor.

The Bengals still boast plenty of depth with Geno Atkins, Domata Peko, Pat Sims and Brandon Thompson manning Cincy's interior line. The setback, though, leaves Billings far behind where he could have been as a rookie, leaving the Bengals to possibly eye adding veteran insurance.
