Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars struggle vs. Texans' defense

Chicken or egg question: Was the Houston Texans' pass defense absolutely filthy Sunday or is the Jacksonville Jaguars passing attack still one of the worst in the NFL?

Breer: Do defenses stand a chance?

There was a record number of points in Week 1. Can the offensive revolution be slowed? Albert Breer examines. **More ...**

The Texans held quarterback Blaine Gabbert to minus-4 yards passing at halftime and 53 yards for the game. He completed 7 of 19 passes and finished with a 62.8 quarterback rating. Gabbert was sacked three times.

"We played great coverage and we really got up on their receivers and stayed all over them," Texans linebacker Brian Cushingtold the Houston Chronicle. "When you play a young quarterback, you want to pressure him and rattle him. And we really got after him."

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph added: "He didn't really have a chance to be comfortable today in the pocket because the front seven put so much pressure on him they had him running in and out the pocket."

The Jaguars added receivers Laurent Robinson and No. 5 overall draft pick Justin Blackmon in an effort to help Gabbert. The offense looked better in Week 1 when Gabbert threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

Credit goes to the Texans who have given up a total of 17 points in two games and one passing touchdown. They picked off Ryan Tannehill three times in the season-opener against the Miami Dolphins. The defense has proved itself one of the best in the NFL despite average-at-best opponents in Miami and Jacksonville the first two weeks.
