The Brandon Weeden era in Cleveland isn't over yet.
Browns starting quarterback Brian Hoyer left Thursday night's 37-24 win over the Buffalo Bills with a right knee injury. Coach Rob Chudzinski told reporters after the game that Hoyer sprained his knee and will undergo an MRI exam on Friday.
NFL Media's Alex Flanagan reported during the tilt that the Browns fear Hoyer tore knee ligaments, and NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Friday morning that Hoyer is believed to have a torn ACL, per a source briefed on his injury.
Weeden replaced Hoyer immediately and was booed after a few throws. Wide receiver Davone Bess was the team's emergency quarterback had Weeden gotten hurt because Jason Campbell was inactive.
The injury came after Hoyer escaped pressure and rushed for a first down. Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso tackled Hoyer after the quarterback appeared to start going into a slide. Hoyer's legs bent underneath him awkwardly. There will be questions whether Alonso committed unnecessary roughness, but it was a bang-bang play.
Hoyer and the resurgent Browns have been a great story the last couple of weeks. Despite the win, this puts a big damper on things.
Browns fullback Chris Ogbonnaya also left the game with a concussion, Chudzinski announced.Â
Flanagan also reported that Browns defensive lineman Desmond Bryant was taken to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath during Thursday night's game. The team later confirmed the news.Â
