Colt McCoy will remain in Cleveland while his teammates visit the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, but Browns coach Pat Shurmur said the quarterback is trying hard to return to the field before the end of the season.
Shurmur officially ruled out McCoy following Thursday's practice when he told reporters, via The Plain Dealer, that McCoy wouldn't be able to travel with the team to Baltimore as he still battles the effects of a concussion sustained Week 14 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Seneca Wallace will start his second consecutive game for the Browns. Shurmur also told reporters that McCoy is working his way back to being able to play, but he isn't sure about the second-year pro's status for the Browns' season finale against the Steelers.
McCoy hasn't practiced since suffering a concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit from Steelers linebacker James Harrison on Dec. 8 -- a hit that led to a one-game suspension for Harrison and created an ensuing controversy that has dominated the league for the past couple of weeks.
A league spokesman confirmed to NFL.com and NFL Network on Wednesday that the NFL will not punish the Browns for their handling of McCoy's concussion.
