Bucs' Dominik calls injuries to DTs McCoy, Price 'disappointing'

A disappointing 2010 draft class led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to add free-agent defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, general manager Mark Dominik said Friday according to the Pewter Report website.

The fifth-year lineman signed a one-year $2 million contract this offseason as insurance for the oft-injured defensive tackles Gerald McCoy and Brian Price, the Bucs' first- and second-round picks in 2010.

"We don't have much more time, nor do (McCoy and Price)," Dominik said. "The reality is it's disappointing that our defensive tackles have been hurt. It's extremely disappointing, and they're frustrated and disappointed as well."

McCoy was the third-overall pick, and Price was chosen 35th overall. The players have combined to play in 39 games over the past two seasons, together registering 10 sacks and 55 tackles.

By contrast, Okoye has proved durable, totaling 109 tackles and 15 sacks while appearing in every game but two in his five seasons spent with the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears.

"I still have hope, but there's only so much time left," Dominik added.
