Peyton Manning has yet to begin throwing since he underwent neck surgery on May 23 to repair a disk problem, *The Indianapolis Star* reported Sunday.
When Manning's teammates took part in Colts linebacker Gary Brackett's Celebrity Servers Night at Morton's steakhouse last Monday, the 11-time Pro Bowl quarterback was on the scene, but excused from carrying a tray.
When Colts players gathered for a charity softball game the next day, Manning cheered them on, but wasn't in the lineup.
Team owner Jim Irsay told reporters that Manning's procedure will require a 6- to 8-week recovery, enough time for him to be ready for training camp.
"Any time Peyton says it's time to throw, you're there with Peyton and (backup) Curtis (Painter)," said Colts kick returner Devin Moore. "He's more of a coach type of guy."
With Manning sidelined, Colts players have gathered for workouts, including a two-week minicamp that wrapped on May 27, according to The Star.
"There were no coaches around," said five-time Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday, an NFLPA Executive Committee member. "It's all just guys getting along. We went to lunch quite a bit and some dinners."
While there is concern that players aren't receiving the guidance and regimented work required during the lockout, cornerback Jerraud Powers told the newspaper that players are taking care of themselves -- and getting a chance to recuperate.
"This is good for our bodies," he said. "We enjoy the healing up."
