Colts part ways with former Ball State signal-caller Davis

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Nate Davis' attempt to make the Indianapolis Colts' roster has ended.

The Colts waived the former Ball State quarterback Monday, just two days after he played sparingly in Saturday's 33-10 preseason loss to the St. Louis Rams. Davis was 3-of-7 passing for 36 yards in the game.

Davis was best known for leading Ball State to back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history. He was 678-of-1,124 passing for 9,223 yards and 74 touchdowns in three seasons with the Cardinals.

Davis left school after his junior year to enter the draft and was the San Francisco 49ers' fifth-round pick in 2009. He played in San Francisco as a rookie and spent some time in Seattle last season.
