Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's 44-22 loss to the Cowboys and did not return to the game.
Daniels' leg was twisted awkwardly as Cowboys linebacker Shemar James pulled the QB to the ground for a sack in the third quarter. Daniels tried to get off a pass while getting taken down but the loose ball was ruled as a fumble, which Dallas recovered.
Daniels slowly got up to his feet and limped to the sideline with the help of his teammates and was replaced by Marcus Mariota.
Washington's medical staff looked at Daniels in the blue medical tent before escorting him to the locker room. He was deemed questionable to return before being ruled out early in the final frame.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters after the game that Daniels will undergo an MRI exam on Monday to determine the extent of the injury. Quinn added that Daniels wanted to return to Sunday's game.
The Commanders were trailing, 27-15, when Daniels exited, but the Cowboys added to their lead with a touchdown score nine plays after forcing the turnover.
Mariota added to Washington's deficit on his first possession at the helm, throwing an interception while under pressure that was returned for a touchdown by Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland to make it a 26-point lead.
Mariota finished 4-of-10 passing for 63 yards in relief, leading one scoring drive that was capped by a rushing TD by running back Chris Rodriguez Jr..
Daniels was 12-of-22 passing for 156 yards and a touchdown through the air and added 35 yards and another score on the ground.
His appearance Sunday was his second game back after missing a pair of contest with a left knee injury.
The Commanders next face the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 27 on Monday Night Football.
