DE Warren, TE Crumpler among notable veterans cut by Pats

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Defensive end Ty Warren and tight end Alge Crumpler were among five veteran players released by the New England Patriots on Friday.

The Patriots signed two draft picks Friday, quarterback Ryan Mallett (a third-round pick) and offensive lineman Marcus Cannon (a fifth-round pick).

In addition to Warren and Crumpler, the team also released offensive tackle Nick Kaczur, linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, defensive back Tony Carter and defensive end Marcus Stroud (who played in 2010 for the Bills, was released in February and signed by the Patriots in March before the start of the lockout).

Warren and Banta-Cain were a part of two Super Bowl-winning Patriots teams (Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX). Crumpler was a four-time Pro Bowler (2004-2007, all while with the Atlanta Falcons).
