Dolphins safety Louis Delmas has torn ACL

The Miami Dolphins' secondary suffered a big blow Wednesday when safety Louis Delmas went down with a torn ACL in his right knee, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the injury.

Rapoport added that Delmas was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to confirm the initial diagnosis.

The former Lions standout, who signed a series of one-year deals with the Dolphins starting in 2014, was carted off the practice field during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.

Per the Charlotte Observer, it was a non-contact injury on the same knee in which he tore his ACL against the Baltimore Ravens late last season. The issue forced him to injured reserve.

Delmas was slated to hold down the back end of Miami's secondary along with strong safety Reshad Jones.

After a solid 2014 that included 49 tackles, a pair of fumble recoveries and a pick returned 81 yards for a touchdown, the Dolphins were hoping the lingering knee issue wouldn't creep up again.
