Doug Marrone: Fred Jackson 'not ready' to play

The Buffalo Bills aren't counting on Fred Jackson suiting up for Sunday's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Coach Doug Marrone told reporters Thursday that the veteran running back is "not ready" for game action despite practicing all week.

Jackson hasn't played since suffering a groin injury in Week 7. His absence on Sunday would trigger another heavy dosage of Anthony Dixon, who churned out just 44 yards on 22 carries against the Jets in Week 8. With C.J. Spiller also sidelined, Bryce Brown and Phillip Tanner are the next in line to see snaps.

We're also keeping an eye on Sammy Watkins, the electric rookie receiver who was a non-participant at Bills practice after suffering a groin injury in Wednesday's session.

We consider the Watkins absence precautionary, but the Bills won't be the same if their dazzling rookie pass-catcher isn't fully operational for Sunday's battle between two promising 5-3 teams.
