Falcons hold out Grimes, Nicholas for second straight day

The Atlanta Falcons held out cornerback Brent Grimes and linebacker Stephen Nicholas from Thursday's practice.

Grimes (knee) and Nicholas (toe), both starters, sat out for the second straight day. Falcons coach Mike Smith has indicated Nicholas would be doubtful for Sunday's wild-card matchup against the New York Giants, while Grimes expects to play, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Wide receivers Harry Douglas (groin) and Kerry Meier (groin), safety William Moore (groin), tight end Michael Palmer (knee) and running backs Jason Snelling (knee) and Michael Turner (groin) were limited for the second straight day.

The Giants added cornerback Corey Webster (hamstring) and reserve tackle Tony Ugoh (ankle) to the injury report. Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (ankle) also did not practice, although Bradshaw is expected to return Friday, reported The Star-Ledger.

Giants tight end Jake Ballard (knee) practiced for the second straight day on Thursday and coach Tom Coughlin said the team would have a better idea of his status on Friday. Ballard has missed the last two games.

Defensive end Osi Umenyiora (ankle, knee) and running back Da'Rel Scott (knee) were limited for the second straight day.
