Free-agent pass rusher Von Miller plans to play in 2025

Von Miller has no designs on retiring in 2025.

The 36-year-old free agent said Wednesday that he still has plenty to offer and wants to continue sacking quarterbacks.

"I'm a locker-room guy through and through, and I can still roll out of the bed and rush the passer," Miller said, via The Associated Press. "That's what I got."

The Buffalo Bills released Miller earlier this year after three seasons. Since suffering a knee injury in 2022, the former Pro Bowler hasn't been the same. In 2024, he played in 13 games, making zero starts and sacking the quarterback six times.

Miller's 129.5 career sacks put him 16th all time, the most by any active player. The future Hall of Famer told Mike Klis of 9news that his goal of passing former teammate Demarcus Ware (138.5 sacks; nineth all time) is one reason he wants to continue his career.

The Super Bowl 50 MVP was asked if a return to the Denver Broncos might be in the cards, as he hosted his latest Von's Vision charity event in Colorado. Miller said the Broncos have too many other options this year but didn't rule out a return in 2026.

"I haven't heard anything. But I mean, if you look at it this year, it really doesn't -- it really doesn't make sense. They got two really, really good rushers that are best in the league (in) Jonathon Cooper and Nik Bonitto, they are incredible rushers," he said. "And the guys underneath them, they come in, they produce sacks too, and they play special teams. I'm not playing special teams. So they kind of -- that decision kind of makes itself. I think at 36 years old, I can say that I probably won't be doing that, But, yeah, just this year, probably not. But, you know, the year after that, next year, we'll see what happens."

In a league in constant need of pass rushers, Miller could probably land a rotational role somewhere this year -- depending on how little he's willing to play for -- but his best years are in the rearview. The eight-time Pro Bowler hasn't had a double-digit sack season since 2018.
