Kansas City Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown has one goal entering the 2025 season: Stay on the field.
"Healthy season," Brown said on Tuesday, via ESPN. "It's my number one goal. Just being able to really showcase what I can do. That's all I'm looking to do."
After inking a one-year deal in K.C. last year to bring an intermediate-level playmaker to Patrick Mahomes' offense, he went down with a sternoclavicular joint injury that wiped out the first 15 games of the season.
Brown returned to Kansas City on another one-year deal, hoping to prove again he's that playmaker. Mahomes believes that a healthy Brown can help jumpstart the Chiefs' up-and-down passing attack.
"You all saw it in training camp, how special of a football player he is," Mahomes said this offseason. "He did everything the right way, was in the building early, was in the building late, was teaching other guys. For him to get injured in kind of a freak deal there in the first play of the preseason, it stunk. I was happy to have him back at the end of the season and him to get back within the offense.
"Now with hopefully him having the full offseason and training camp and staying healthy and continuing to fight through, his role will expand even more. It's kind of hard to throw guys in at the end of the season and try to give them a huge role. I think you can see when he gets the football in his hands and he has a huge role in our offense, it makes everybody go."
Brown returned to the lineup for two games last season, catching nine passes for 91 yards -- it was little coincidence that the Chiefs scored 27 and 29 points, respectively, in both his regular-season games played. In the postseason, Brown put up five grabs for 50 yards.
"I wasn't my best self, for sure," Brown said of his late-season return. "I was coming back really just trying to help whichever way I could, and that was my mindset, and that helped me carry me through the end of last year. So I was just really grateful that I even had the opportunity to come back."
The Chiefs' plans to revamp the wideout crew last season went awry quickly with the injuries to Brown and Rashee Rice. Both are back this season, along with the addition of fourth-round pick Jalen Royals. If everyone stays healthy and Xavier Worthy takes a Year 2 leap, we could finally see a diverse, fun passing offense after a couple of years of middling offensive performances in K.C.
