The New York Giants entered Week 15 atop the NFC East, seemingly in position to go on one of their patented late-season runs. Instead, they lost by a combined score of 67-14 to the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens.
The Giants still could make the playoffs with a win Sunday and a whole lot of help, but their season is all but over after an embarrassing performance against the Baltimore Ravens. And they know it.
"Do we deserve it by the way we played? Do we?" Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said, via the New York Daily News. "I don't think so, man. We went out there and pissed on our legs. That's really all I can say."
"It's one thing to lose," Giants quarterback Eli Manning said. "Sometimes, you lose at the end of the game, but we didn't even give ourselves a chance today. We had no momentum, no spark."
"Guys have just got to find their hearts and rise to the occasion, which we're not doing," Pierre-Paul said. "We're iffy, man, and I don't like that."
Iffy is the right word to describe these Giants. They were good enough to destroy the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers and lame enough to be blown out twice to wind down the season. They are 2-5 since a 6-2 start, which really isn't different than last year's team.
But 9-7 won't be good enough to make the playoffs this time.
