Chicago Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson wasn't interested in trying to find any silver linings as the club heads to Thanksgiving in Detroit on a five-game losing streak.
"I've been in slumps four, five years in a row now," Johnson said Monday, via the Associated Press. "So, I mean at the end of the day, I don't look for, 'OK, what is going to be better in the future?' ... It will be better when it's better. So, right now, it's not better. That's all I can go off of."
The Bears haven't had a winning season since 2018. The best record since Johnson joined the club in 2020 is 8-8, which took place his rookie season.
Johnson's frustration comes after another close loss, as the Bears fell 30-27 to Minnesota in overtime. Once again, self-inflicted issues cost Chicago a chance to pull out the win, and if not for a furious comeback, it would have been a double-digit defeat.
While Caleb Williams and the Bears offense finally got out of a slumber, the defense struggled this past week. Sam Darnold and the Vikings gobbled up 452 total yards, averaging 7.0 yards per play, and easily marched down the field in overtime for the win.
Since getting off to a 4-2 start to the season, the Bears have cratered, losing five consecutive games -- the longest in-season losing streak since dropping the final 10 of 2022, head coach Matt Eberflus' first season in Chicago. Following the Hail Mary loss in Washington, the Bears have been unable to stop the spiral.
"I don't walk around with a smile on my face," Johnson said. "There ain't nothing to be happy about. So, I mean, obviously my frustration is at a high. Everybody's frustration is at a high."
With a short turnaround before the Thanksgiving game against the 10-1 Detroit Lions on Thursday, there isn't much time for Johnson and the Bears to wallow in that frustration this week.
