Lions have QB Hill back at practice, but Stanton likely still starter

Quarterback Shaun Hill returned to Lions practice Wednesday for the first time since he broke the index finger on his passing hand, but Drew Stanton took the first-team reps, the *Detroit Free Press* reported.

Stanton started the previous two games, going 1-1.

Hill, who sustained the injury in the Thanksgiving Day game, had the finger taped, but he didn't take any snaps under center, nor did he hand off with his right hand.

Matthew Stafford wasn't on the field during the open portion of practice and likely will miss his sixth consecutive game and 12th overall this season because of his second shoulder sprain of the campaign.

The Lions also put offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus and cornerback Brandon McDonald on season-ending injured reserve and promoted linebacker Caleb Campbell from the practice squad for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.

Cherilus started the first 12 games this season before missing Sunday's 7-3 win over Green Bay with an injured knee. McDonald broke his arm in the same game.

The Lions also signed wide receiver Roy Hall to the practice squad. Hall was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round in 2007. He has spent time with the Colts and New Orleans Saints.
