Montee Ball remains with Denver Broncos

Hold off on the Montee Ball trade rumors for now. He's still a member of the Denver Broncos.

The 2013 second round pick was not among the players released by the Broncos Saturday as they announced their cutdown to the 53-man roster. Kapri Bibbs, who was competing with Ball for the No. 4 running back slot, was let go.

This could be a case of the Broncos getting to keep all of their backs in house. Bibbs is likely headed to the team's practice squad, and it's possible that Ball winds up getting dealt in the coming weeks or even during the regular season.

"We still think that Montee can continue to improve ... He was in the top 53 in the our mind," Broncos VP John Elway said Saturday via the Denver Post.

Inside linebacker Steven Johnson, rookie receiver Jordan Taylor, guard Ben Garland were among the notable Broncos cuts.

UPDATE: Ball's stay on the 53-man roster didn't last long -- the Broncos waived him on Sunday.
