INDIANAPOLIS -- Marshall edge rusher Mike Green addressed the circumstances around his 2022 departure from the Virginia football team on Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, telling reporters he has been accused of sexual assault twice, allegations he denies, and has "done nothing wrong."
Green said he was "suspended" from Virginia before transferring to Marshall ahead of the 2023 season. He led the FBS with 17 sacks in 2024 and is rated by NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah as the No. 17 prospect in this year’s draft.
The reason for Green's exit from Virginia had been murky until he took questions from the media during his press conference on Wednesday at the combine, where 2025 draft prospects will interview with NFL teams, undergo medical exams and participate in on-field athletic testing this week. Cavaliers head coach Tony Elliott said in September 2022 that Green was "no longer active" with the team. The University of Virginia declined to comment on the matter when contacted on Wednesday.
"There's accusations out there," Green said. "I've never been questioned. I've never been asked. You know what I'm saying? Like, nobody ever asked me a question about what happened before I departed from Virginia. It was just accusations that caused me to leave from there."
When asked about how many accusations he has faced, Green said there were two, one in high school and one "anonymous report" in college.
Green drew strong reviews from his performance late last month at the Reese's Senior Bowl, an all-star showcase for 100-plus prospects in this year's draft, and he's a projected top-10 pick in Jeremiah's most recent mock draft. Green said on Wednesday that he's "not worried at all" about the allegations affecting his stock leading up to the April 24-26 draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
"As you can see, throughout this process I've been rising higher and higher and higher," he said. "That should tell you everything that you need to know. I've been sticking to the process, like I said earlier, and I've been telling the truth. I have no concerns and I have no problem with talking to these teams about it because I know who I am and I know the truth."
