NFL Research offers the best nuggets from each week of games in the NFL. Here are the most eye-popping statistical accomplishments of Week 9.
1) Christian McCaffrey joined Hall of Famer Jim Brown (1963) as the only players with at least 150 scrimmage yards and at least one touchdown in six of the first eight games of a season in NFL history.
3) Tyreek Hill's 40-yard TD reception against the Vikings was his 15th scrimmage TD of at least 40 yards since he entered the NFL in 2016, the most such TDs by any player in that span.
4) Russell Wilson had five pass TDs and zero interceptions in today's win over the Buccaneers, bringing his total to 22 pass TDs and one INT this season. Wilson is the only player in the Super Bowl era with at least 22 pass TDs and one or fewer INT in his team's first nine games.
5) With his 5-yard run in the first quarter Sunday night, Lamar Jackson broke Michael Vick's record (576) for the most rush yards by a quarterback through his team's first eight games of a season in NFL history.
6) Brian Hoyer is the fifth player in NFL history to throw a pass TD with seven or more different teams (Patriots, Cardinals, Browns, Texans, Bears, 49ers and Colts). He joins Vinny Testaverde, Chris Chandler, Gus Frerotte (seven teams each) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (eight teams).
8) After opening his Bills career with five straight games outside the end zone, Cole Beasley has had a receiving TD in three straight games. It is the first time in his career he has scored at least one TD in back-to-back-to-back outings.
9) Ryan Fitzpatrick became the first Dolphins quarterback to throw for at least three TDs in the first half of a game against the Jets since Dan Marino in Week 3, 1986. Unlike today, the Jets went on to defeat the Dolphins 51-45.
11) Vikings punter Britton Colquitt and Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt each had more than 200 yards punting and zero touchbacks today. The sons of two-time Super Bowl-winner Craig Colquitt met for the 14th time in the NFL. Younger brother Britton had won nine of the previous 13 meetings, but Dustin has now won the last three Colquitt matchups.
12) With 740 rush yards this season, Josh Jacobs passed Hall of Famer Marcus Allen (697) for the most rush yards by a Raiders player in their rookie season.
13) Two of the three highest-scoring games this season have come between the Buccaneers and the NFC West. In Week 4, the Rams and Buccaneers combined for 95 points, the most in a game this season. In Week 9, the Buccaneers and Seahawks combined for 74 points, the third-most this season.
14) Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf combined for 275 receiving yards and three receiving TDs today. They are the first Seahawks wide receiver duo to combine for at least 250 receiving yards and at least three receiving TDs since Week 6, 1987 ... when Hall of Famer Steve Largent had 261 receiving yards and three receiving TDs all by himself.
15) Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones are the first teammate duo to both record at least 125 receiving yards and at least one receiving TD in a game since Travis Kelce (127 rec yds and one rec TD) and Tyreek Hill (215 rec yds and one rec TD) did it in a Week 11, 2018 loss to the Rams. Since 1948, the only other Lions duo to accomplish this feat is Brett Perriman (152 rec yds and two rec TD) and Herman Moore (127 rec yds and one rec TD) in a Week 13, 1995 win over the Vikings.
16) Three quarterbacks with the same surname went 3-0 after starting in the same week for the first time in the Super Bowl era. Josh Allen, Kyle Allen and Brandon Allen all won today. This is the third instance of three quarterbacks with the same surname starting in the same week in the Super Bowl era. Brad Johnson (Washington Redskins, L), Doug Johnson (Atlanta Falcons, L) and Rob Johnson (Buffalo Bills, L) all started Week 14, 2000. Dave Wilson (New Orleans Saints, W), Marc Wilson (Los Angeles Raiders, L) and Wade Wilson (Minnesota Vikings, L) all started Week 16, 1984.
