Niners QB Brock Purdy day to day with back soreness; MRI clean

Injuries continue to mount for a beat-up San Francisco 49ers squad, with the list now including quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy is dealing with back soreness and considered day to day, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday.

The 49ers head coach added Purdy, who did not miss a snap in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, had a clean MRI.

Unfortunately, Purdy's injury news isn't close to the worst development addressed by Shanahan, who also announced defensive lineman Javon Hargrave is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season with a torn triceps.

A ballyhooed free-agent signing for the 49ers ahead of the 2023 season, Hargrave was a Pro Bowler last year and through three starts this season had posted seven tackles and a sack.

In his absence, it's likely Jordan Elliott and Kevin Givens will see more snaps going forward.

As for Purdy, he's the latest concern on a talented offense that's been crushed by injuries.

Running back Christian McCaffrey, the reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year, is currently on injured reserve with calf and Achilles issues. Shanahan said Monday that McCaffrey traveled to Germany to see a specialist to address his Achilles tendonitis issue and will remain there for a few days.

McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle were each inactive for Sunday's loss to the Rams.

Shanahan said last week that Samuel would be gone for multiple weeks with a calf issue.

As for Kittle, he's dealing with a hamstring injury, and Shanahan said Monday he's hopeful the Pro Bowl tight end would return to practice this week.

San Francisco hosts the New England Patriots on Sunday and it will be without CMC, Hargrave and most likely Samuel. Kittle and now Purdy will be situations to monitor heading up to game day.
