Christian McCaffrey's availability for Week 15 is in question due to an unforeseen ailment.
The San Francisco 49ers running back was added to the injury report on Saturday with a back injury that will deem him questionable for Sunday's home game against the Tennessee Titans.
McCaffrey logged a full practice on Friday after an illness hindered his availability to participate earlier in the week. Him not being on the initial injury report Friday brought a sigh of relief to San Francisco, but a new back injury might bring a bigger concern.
The 49ers offense has dealt with a number of injuries throughout the season, most notably to quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle, but McCaffrey's reliable presence has steered the ship.
McCaffrey leads the team in both rushing (849) and receiving yards (806) while also generating the most touchdowns (13) for the Niners. Being without their workhorse RB might not be so crucial against a two-win Titans team on Sunday but there's cause for concern should the back injury linger down the final stretch.
Brian Robinson portends to get more snaps with McCaffrey ailing or especially if he is unable to suit up Sunday. Robinson has averaged 4.6 yards per carry in his role as the No. 2 backfield option.
With or without CMC, the 49ers (9-4) aim to maintain position amid a heated NFC West battle on Sunday when they face the visiting Titans (2-11).
