Packers rookie Randall Cobb tied an NFL record Thursday night with a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints, helping give his team an edge in Green Bay's 42-34 win at Lambeau Field.
Cobb took the third-quarter kick and was hit around the Packers' 23-yard line, where he spun, was able to keep his balance and took off again.
"It was amazing," Cobb said. "The feeling of being in Lambeau Field and just having all of the guys around me coming off of the Super Bowl and just trying to do anything I can to contribute, and I certainly tried to make the most of my opportunities tonight."
Cobb went against coach Mike McCarthy's orders by returning a kick from that deep in his own end zone, but he claimed to receive divine instruction.
"I was just trusting in God," Cobb told USA Today. "He told me to bring it out. I'm not supposed to bring that out. Some things are logical and some things are just the power of God."
One Saints defender slipped on the play, but Courtney Roby, Leigh Torrence, Isa Abdul-Quddus and Korey Hall all had a hand on Cobb at one point.
"Definitely felt like we had him bottled in and didn't wrap up and kind of finish the play," Torrence said. "That's one you want to have back, but you can't."
Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson delivered a final block on Roman Harper for the score that gave Green Bay a 35-20 lead.
Cobb's return tied the record set by Ellis Hobbs, who returned a kick 108 yards for the New England Patriots against the New York Jets in 2007.
