Packers' Jaire Alexander subject of trade discussions; Green Bay open to dealing CB

A proven veteran cornerback is available in Green Bay.

The Packers have had trade conversations centered around Jaire Alexander and the club is open to moving the star cornerback for the right price, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday, per sources.

Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler, is the most decorated CB currently available on the trade market, Rapoport added. He has two years and $37 million remaining on his contract.

Alexander's future in Green Bay has been in question since Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was noncommittal about the CB during the club's season-ending news conference.

"We'll see," Gutekunst said on Jan. 16 when asked if Alexander would be on the team in 2025. "We're working through that. He certainly could be. But we'll work through that as we go."

The Packers made strides in 2024 under first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, but Alexander wasn't available for a good majority of Green Bay's playoff-bound campaign. A PCL tear, which required a knee scope, kept the veteran on the sideline after Week 11 despite some hope of a late-season return. He produced two interceptions -- one of which was a pick-six -- seven pass break-ups and one forced fumble in his limited playing time in 2024.

It was the second straight season Alexander was limited to seven games. The 2023 season featured a number of absences due to various injuries and a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team after he crashed the pregame coin toss in Carolina. Alexander ended the season on a high note, producing an INT in Green Bay's upset win over the Cowboys in the Wild Card Round.

All in all, Alexander has missed half (34 starts in 68 games) of the past four seasons, and apparently Green Bay is looking to move on.

At 28 years old, Alexander seemingly has the potential to provide his lockdown coverage to a team in need. The 2022 season was the last in which Alexander provided a full scope of his talent, producing five interceptions and 14 pass break-ups in 16 games played, resulting in his second trip to the Pro Bowl.
