Patriots RB James White's father killed in car crash

New England Patriots running back James White's father, Tyrone, was killed in a car crash on Sunday and his mother, Lisa, who was also in the car is in critical condition, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Mike Giardi confirmed.

White was told prior to the Patriots' Sunday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks and is inactive for the game.

White's father was a captain with the Miam-Dade Police Department.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the 28-year-old running back is in his seventh NFL season -- all with the Patriots -- and has won three Super Bowls.

White family tragedy brought up reaction from those within the NFL, including past teammates.

Following the Patriots' loss on Sunday night to the Seahawks, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson, who was a college teammate of James White at Wisconsin, began his postgame interview on NBC with heartfelt condolences.

"My heart's heavy, because one of my teammates, James White -- from Wisconsin, one of the nicest guys, teammates, one of the hardest workers, one of the best people I know -- had a tough one, losing his dad," Wilson said. "I'm not sure what the situation is with his mom, yet. My heart's been heavy all day thinking about him.

"James, I'm praying for you man, if you can hear me."

Among them was White's teammate the previous six seasons with the Patriots, current Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
