Patriots re-sign WR Underwood, who was cut before Super Bowl

The New England Patriots re-signed receiver Tiquan Underwood after cutting him the night before Super Bowl XLVI, the team announced Tuesday.

Underwood was released so that the Patriots could promote defensive end Alex Silvestro from their practice squad. Silvestro did not get on the field during the Patriots' 21-17 loss to the New York Giants. Underwood still would have received a Super Bowl ring had the Patriots won Sunday.

Underwood finished the 2011 season with three receptions for 30 yards.
