Terrell Owens was unable to hold onto his ticket to an NFL return, but don't assume his well-chronicled personality ticks played a role in his release from the Seattle Seahawks.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a glowing defense of the wide receiver Monday, interrupting a reporter who asked about Owens' attitude.
"Anybody that thinks he had an attitude around here or something like that got in the way is wrong," Carroll said. "They don't know what they're talking about.
"This guy was great. He did everything we wanted him to do. He practiced hard, he studied hard, he asked questions, he worked hard in the games. He did everything. He was terrific."
Carroll said Owens was let go because younger receivers on the roster were a better fit. He said he "wouldn't hesitate" to sign Owens during the season if the need arises.
"He's got the competitive makeup to do it, he's physically beautifully fit for a guy of his years, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't wind up in somebody's camp and playing for somebody."
Carroll is one of the most positive people you'll ever meet, so try to keep that in mind here. If Owens was still as impressive as Carroll claimed, he wouldn't have picked Braylon Edwards instead.
