The Los Angeles Rams bolstered their secondary ahead of the trade deadline.
L.A. is acquiring cornerback Roger McCreary in a trade with the Tennessee Titans, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday, per sources informed of the swap.
The Titans will receive a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick from the Rams in exchange for McCreary and a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick, per Rapoport.
Tennessee has since announced the trade.
In a corresponding move, Tennessee is signing cornerback Micah Robinson to the active roster off Green Bay's practice squad, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per a source.
A second-round pick in 2022, McCreary has three career interceptions, including one in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, 17 career passes defended, one forced fumble, four sacks and 253 tackles. Making his third start of the season in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, the slot corner picked up his first sack of the season on a blitz.
Considering McCreary is in the final year of his rookie contract, the trade is the latest move by the rebuilding Titans to move on from players not in their long-term plans.
The Rams have shuffled through secondary players due to injuries, with Ahkello Witherspoon on injured reserve. Emmanuel Forbes was picked on early in the season before being moved to a rotational role. Quentin Lake has played well from the slot, but could be moved around the formation, particularly with free safety Kamren Kinchens banged up.
On a well-rounded squad, the secondary was the biggest concern for a defense that has feasted up front with Jared Verse and Co. In a hotly contested NFC playoff race, GM Les Snead didn't sit around ahead of the trade deadline, bringing in a reinforcement for his back end.
