Ryan Tannehill had a lukewarm showing in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game, and his struggles continued Tuesday.
The Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback tossed three interceptions in practice, with a fourth errant pass dropped by defensive tackle Kheeston Randall, according to The Palm Beach Post.
ESPN's Merril Hoge said Tannehill "looked awful" in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but the second-year pro isn't sweating the criticism, saying analysts "can have an opinion if they want to have an opinion."
"Everyone has a bad day now and then," Tannehill said. "Obviously you don't want it to happen consistently. You have to go in and make corrections and move forward."
Tannehill was our No. 1 "Making the Leap" candidate, and we're not backing away after one down preseason game and an off practice session. Gregg Rosenthal was in Canton, Ohio, on Sunday and correctly pointed out that it was "impossible to evaluate" Tannehill because of the shoddy protection from his line, especially starting left tackle Jonathan Martin.
Mike Sherman acknowledged his quarterback "still needs to have better ball location," but the Dolphins offensive coordinator came away from the Cowboys tilt with a sunnier view, saying: "(Tannehill's) a second-year player. The checks he made were phenomenal. ... I thought mentally he was very, very sharp."
It's August, and far too early to make judgments about a young signal-caller. Let's keep our wits about us, shall we?
