Seahawks LB Curry probable with hip injury

RENTON, Wash. -- Despite barely being able to walk earlier this week, rookie Aaron Curry will be able to play for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Curry is probable after fully participating in practice the last two days with a hip pointer injury.

Curry was injured late in the fourth quarter of the Seattle Seahawks' 34-7 loss to the Houston Texans. Curry was trying to get off a block to tackle Texans running back Arian Foster when teammate David Hawthorne came flying in and put his helmet in Curry's right hip.

Curry briefly remained on the field face down before being carted off.

"It was tough. I was a little scared for the future because I didn't know how bad it really was," Curry said. "As hard as he hit me, I thought he broke my hip."

He struggled to even get dressed following the game, wincing in pain with every movement. X-rays came back negative and Curry was able to move around better on Monday, which gave coach Jim Mora hope that he would be able to play this week.

"When we came in on Monday he was a lot better and when they indicated that it was muscle, soft-tissue more than bone, they were pretty confident, our training staff, that by the end of the week that he would probably be ready to go and he is," Mora said.

Friday was the best Curry felt all week.

"Today felt great," Curry said. "There's still some little small issues but it's not a big deal. Nothing that will keep me from playing."

Mora is happy to have Curry available this week and thinks that the adversity he's faced will only help build character in the rookie.

"That's a good thing for us and it's good for a young guy to have to fight through that a little bit," Mora said. "I think that builds a little something inside of him."

Notes: WR Nate Burleson is out with a high ankle sprain. LB D.D. Lewis is questionable with a knee injury. ... Mora said C Max Unger and G Chris Spencer have acclimated well to the switch in positions this week. "Chris has been helping Max with some of the calls and hopefully it goes well Sunday. I think it will," Mora said. ... Spencer will play right guard for the first quarter with G Mike Gibson getting a chance to play the position in the second quarter. ... RB Justin Forsett and RB Julius Jones will split series this week, sharing even more of the workload than in previous weeks. Forsett will also return punts with Burleson out.
