A small flock of receivers appear to be departing Seattle.
DK Metcalf has requested a trade, and the Seahawks have agreed to explore their options regarding a deal, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday.
The news on Metcalf comes less than an hour after the Seahawks announced they released veteran Tyler Lockett after 10 seasons.
Metcalf's request arrives on the heels of a 2024 season in which he wasn't leaned on as much as previous years, finishing with 66 catches, 992 yards and five receiving touchdowns in 15 games for a Seahawks team that missed the playoffs despite finishing 10-7. Metcalf's campaign coincided with the rise of fellow Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who caught 100 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns, proving to be the more threatening option in the passing game.
Though Seattle won 10 games, Metcalf is interested in opportunities elsewhere, clearing the way for hypothetical pairings to start flying. One logical suitor -- the Green Bay Packers, a team whose own running back, Josh Jacobs, admitted lacked a true No. 1 receiver -- will be mentioned plenty as the Seahawks weigh their options.
With Metcalf seeking a way out, such a pairing makes sense. However, it's not as simple as matching receiver with team, not after the Jets released veteran Davante Adams, who could also see a return to Green Bay as his best route in 2025. Another possible destination exists in Las Vegas, where Metcalf's former coach Pete Carroll is now leading the Raiders.
Metcalf will undoubtedly attract interest even after he fell short of 1,000 receiving yards in 2024. The 2025 draft class isn't very strong at the position, and at 27 years old, the two-time Pro Bowler is firmly in his prime and ready to produce for a contender.
Metcalf's existing contract could present a hurdle, though not an insurmountable one. He's scheduled to account for $31.8 million in cap space in 2025, the final year of a deal that includes three void years (including $7.1 million in 2026). Seattle would save nearly $11 million in cap space by trading him before June 1, and $18 million if it happens after June 1.
With the Seahawks agreeing to take calls on Metcalf, expect the rumor mill to churn rapidly.
