ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan indicated Monday that tight end Chris Cooley's season might be over after the tight end broke his left index finger during Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Cooley will have surgery Wednesday.
Asked if Cooley will play again this season, Shanahan said: "We'll listen to (doctors') opinions over the next few days, especially after the surgery, to make a decision for sure."
Meanwhile, left tackle Trent Williams is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks with a severely sprained right ankle.
As expected, Redskins left guard Kory Lichtensteiger is out for the season with torn ligaments in his right knee.
Some players said Lichtensteiger was hurt on an illegal hit by Eagles defensive end Darryl Tapp. Shanahan said he couldn't see the hit on the coaches' game film.
The injuries could lead to different starters at four of the five offensive line positions.
"It's going to be a big challenge," said Jammal Brown, the right tackle who might move to left tackle.
Shanahan said the Redskins will promote rookie guard Maurice Hurt from the practice squad to add depth to the offensive line.
