Smith waived, Norwood promoted to Browns' active roster

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have waived running back Clifton Smith, who was signed recently to return kickoffs after Josh Cribbs was hurt.

The team also promoted wide receiver Jordan Norwood to the 53-man active roster, released offensive lineman John Malecki from the practice squad and signed offensive lineman Phil Trautwein and wide receiver Rod Windsor to the practice squad.

Norwood was signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He was waived and spent 13 weeks on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad last season. He was re-signed Sept. 6 by the Browns and spent 11 weeks on the practice squad.
