Jeremy Mincey didn't report to training camp in an effort to get a new deal, but the Dallas Cowboys don't plan to play ball. They are prepared to fine the veteran for missing time.
"I think it is (disappointing), he is a player who is under contract and we expect all players under contract to be here," Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday said. "Jeremy obviously did a great job for us last year, he was a big part of the success on the defensive part of the football and we have nothing but respect for him, but he is under contract, I think he signed that contract last year, his representative was there, he was all for it and he signed it.
"It's not a long term contract, it's over at the end of this year, but we fully expect him to be here and if he's not obviously there is recourse for us as well, in terms of there will be fines accordingly if he misses camp. It is disappointing, we expect him to be here and we want him to be here."
Mincey is subject to a $30,000 fine for each day he misses.
Cowboys players reported to camp Wednesday.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Mincey wouldn't report to camp as he's been seeking a contract extension since February.
Mincey is set to make $1.5 million in the final year of a two-year deal signed in 2014. The 31-year-old defensive lineman led the Cowboys in sacks and quarterback pressures last year.
With the additions of Greg Hardy, rookie Randy Gregory and an expected leap from Demarcus Lawrence, Mincey's production could decrease in 2015. He wants to secure his future before that possibility comes to fruition.
The Cowboys stance, however, seems clear: Hold out and lose more money.Â
