Temple welcomes DT Shahid Paulhill back to team

Temple senior DT Shahid Paulhill, who left the team in March, is back on the roster and eligible to play.

At the time, new Owls coach Matt Rhule said Paulhill -- who was a projected starter this season -- "has decided not to come back for a fifth year."

Paulhill (6-foot-3, 285 pounds) started nine games last season and made 22 tackles. He started four times at tackle in 2011 and six times at end as a redshirt freshman in 2010.

If Paulhill is in shape, he will help form a good tackle rotation for the Owls, joining seniors Levi Brown and Kamal Johnson, promising redshirt freshman Averee Robinson and sophomore Hershey Walton in a beefy quintet.

The Owls were poor against the run last season, but the potential exists for at least an adequate run defense this fall. All three starting linebackers return, but end is a potential trouble spot.

The Owls open Aug. 31 at Notre Dame, which is rebuilding its backfield, so it should make for an intriguing test for both teams.
