- As speculation continues to swirl regarding where Jadeveon Clowney will land next, Titans coach Mike Vrabel addressed at the top of his press conference the latest on the communication between the talented edge rusher and Tennessee. "We have an offer out. We've been in contact with Jadeveon, with J.D. and his agent. That's all I can report and that's all I really know," Vrabel said. The Titans, along with the Saints and Seahawks -- the club Clowney spent 2019 with -- are interested in the 27-year-old's services.
- Washington coach Ron Rivera named Dwayne Haskins a starter on Wednesday. Rivera spent time on Friday talking about how a conversation with Haskins' very well-known colkege head coach helped him become more informed of the young QB's mentality. "I had an opportunity to talk to Urban Meyer and he gave me a lot of insight into Dwayne. It was amazing, it really was," Rivera said. "He really gave me things that I could use going forward so when I sat down with Dwayne, one of the things that I remember Coach had told me was that you got to challenge the young man. When the young man's challenged, he bows up and does the things that he needs to do." Haskins played under Meyer at Ohio State from 2017-18. Rivera also revealed that, thanks to his social media-savvy daughter, he managed to gain more insight on Haskins by being able to "stalk" his social media activity. Tweets from Haskins focusing on being a better leader, getting in better shape and working out with his teammates were sent Rivera's way throughout the offseason, and he said he's seen that same energy and effort from Haskins in real-time. "Unless he's really good at editing, he did a real good job and I felt real comfortable about it," Rivera quipped.
- The Carolina Panthers held a dress rehearsal at Bank of America Stadium on Friday, and first-year head coach Matt Rhule gave an honest assessment of how it went. "We did not play like a team that was excited to be out there completely at the starters' level. I think the starters would all tell you that," Rhule said, via the team's website. "It was not the requisite energy level to play at a high level, and that's something we'll have to learn from. I was not overly pleased with the starters, which obviously always then goes back to the coaching staff and myself." Representing the starters afterward, wide receiver Curtis Samuel agreed with his coach, noting the team kind of went 'through the motions' and was off put by the empty stadium while dressed in full pads and uniforms. "We've got to understand that we've got to build our own energy," Samuel said. "It's not about the crowd. It's not about nobody else. It's about us when we get on that field doing a job we love to do." Rhule was pleased with his second and third-string squads as they make their last efforts to make the roster, but as the starters prepare for their Week 1 matchup at home against the Las Vegas Raiders, Samuel sees a silver lining to experiencing the awkward backdrop. "I feel like we've learned from this situation and know what to look forward to coming next week," Samuel said. "(C)ome game day, it's just going to be us, and we've got to be able to create that type of energy for ourselves."
- The Falcons got creative with their announcement of team captains on Friday, with the family members of Julio Jones, Grady Jarrett, Alex Mack, Ricardo Allen, Deion Jones, and Matt Ryan personally delivering the news on the jumbotron at Mercedes-Benz Stadium during practice.
- This tussle between Aaron Rodgers and Tim Boyle is probably the closest thing to a "quarterback competition" we've seen in Packers training camp. You can stop holding your breath now, Matt LaFleur; no QBs were harmed in the making of this clip.
