Vernon Hargreaves 'most likely' will apply for early draft eligibility

Florida's Vernon Hargreaves III says he'll probably apply for early entry into the 2016 NFL Draft, signaling an end to a three-year career as one of the top cornerbacks in college football.

"We've been talking about it. It's not something we've been trying to hide. I most likely am going to declare for the NFL and see where it goes from there," Hargreaves said after Saturday's SEC title game, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Hargreaves has been rated as the top cornerback in the college game, and his four interceptions on the season tied him for the team lead. Hargreaves has been a staple player in the UF secondary since his freshman year in 2013, when he earned a starting job despite the presence of veteran stars Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson.

The deadline for underclassmen to apply for early draft eligibility is Jan. 18.

Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis said he will return to UF for his senior season. Davis has played somewhat in the shadow of Gators star linebacker Antonio Morrison this season, but has been just as integral, if not more so, in Florida's defensive success. Davis leads the team with 46 solo tackles. He's been credited with 11 tackles for loss and four pass breakups.
