Veteran LB Simoneau, out of NFL since '07, signs with Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chiefs have signed free-agent linebacker Mark Simoneau, a 33-year-old veteran who's joining his fourth NFL team.

Terms of the signing announced Wednesday weren't released. The Chiefs released defensive lineman Atiyyah Ellison to make roster room for Simoneau.

Simoneau hasn't played in the NFL since he suffered a back injury in 2007. He has 68 starts in 123 career games.

The Atlanta Falcons made Simoneau a third-round draft pick in 2000 out of Kansas State, where he had 400 career tackles. He played with the Falcons from 2000 to 2002, the Philadelphia Eagles from 2003 to 2005 and the New Orleans Saints in 2006 and 2007.

The Chiefs also said Wednesday that they added rookie wide receiver Jeremy Horne to the practice squad.
