Veteran WR Finneran skips free agency, agrees to stay a Falcon

The Atlanta Falcons announced Thursday that they have agreed to a contract extension with wide receiver Brian Finneran, who will avoid free agency.

Financial details of the deal weren't disclosed.

Finneran, 34, caught 11 passes for 111 yards in 10 games this season, his second back with the Falcons after he missed 2006 and 2007 because of knee injuries. Finneran has been a third-down target for quarterback Matt Ryan, with 21 of his 32 catches moving the chains.

Finneran led the Falcons with 50 receptions for 611 yards in 2005.

Finneran played three games with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999, but he has spent the rest of his career in Atlanta. He led the Falcons with 50 catches for 611 yards in 2005, and he has 219 receptions for 2,927 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career.
