Vikings waive backup center Cooper, sign veteran Berger

The Vikings waived backup center Jon Cooper on Monday and signed center Joe Berger, The Star Tribune reported.

Berger is a six-year veteran who started 14 games last season for the Miami Dolphins. Coincidentally, Berger was released by the Dolphins this year when they added former Vikings center Ryan Cook.

Berger was drafted in the sixth round by the Carolina Panthers in 2005. In addition to the Dolphins, he's also played for the Dallas Cowboys, and can play most positions on the line.

Cooper played in 12 games in 2010, starting one. He did not play in Minnesota's opener Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
