Welker added to Patriots' injury report; Edelman practices

Wide receiver Wes Welker showed up on the New England Patriots' injury report on Wednesday with a neck injury and was listed as missing practice.

Welker's appearance on the report is a bit of a mystery. According to the Boston Herald, Welker was spotted in the locker room on Monday and also participated in a conference call with New York media on Tuesday. It could just be Welker had the day off.

Losing Welker would be an issue for the Patriots because his backup -- Julian Edelman -- is certainly no lock to play after he was charged Tuesday with assault. Edelman did take part in practice, and Patriots coach Bill Belichickwas tight-lipped with reporters about any potential discipline.

It all means Taylor Price could be in line for a bigger role when the Patriotshost the New York Giants.

Defensive end Shaun Ellis, who left last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers with a rib injury, was limited in practice.

Running back Kevin Faulk (knee) and tight end Aaron Hernandez (knee) were added to Wednesday's injury report.
