Arik Armstead, San Francisco 49ers reach deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of first-round defensive end Arik Armstead.

Armstead received a four-year contract worth $9.84 million fully guaranteed, including a $5.42 million signing bonus, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Armstead earned honorable mention All-Pac 12 honors after recording 46 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble for Oregon in 2014.

At 6-foot-7 and 292 pounds, the erstwhile basketball player bears a physical resemblance to CardinalsPro Bowler Calais Campbell, but is viewed as a project for San Francisco.

The 49ers will have to exercise patience with Armstead's development behind Darnell Dockett, Tank Carradine and Tony Jerod-Eddie.
