Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list following a car accident Saturday morning, the team announced.
"Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident this morning on his way to our practice facility," the Buccaneers said in a statement. "Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will not play in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints and has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. We have signed Ryan Neal from our practice squad to the 53-man roster."
Whitehead, 27, has started in 12 games for the Buccaneers this season. Whitehead has 79 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one quarterback hit.
The Bucs safety missed four games earlier this season due to a pectoral injury. He was designated to return from injured reserve on Dec. 24 and was questionable for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints before Saturday's incident.
Whitehead was selected by the Buccaneers in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
