Cleveland Browns put Alex Mack on injured reserve

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine said earlier this week that the team wasn't giving up hope of getting Alex Mack back this season after the center broke his fibula. On Friday morning, they officially gave up hope.

The team placed the Pro Bowl center Alex Mack on injured reserve Friday, ending his season. Pettine said that Mack could return in 8 to 10 weeks if the damage to his leg was limited to a clean break, so this move indicates there could have been ligament damage.

It's a huge blow for a Browns offense that has been led by Mack and the team's offensive line. While the Dallas Cowboys have received a lot of notice as the best offensive line in the league, Cleveland's unit has not been far behind. John Greco is expected to take over at center, with Paul McQuistan sliding into Greco's guard spot starting this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
