Dolphins, DT Zach Sieler agree to three-year, $64 million contract extension

The Dolphins are keeping a cornerstone piece on defense for the foreseeable future.

Miami and defensive tackle Zach Sieler have agreed to a three-year, $64 million extension, including $44 million guaranteed, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday, per sources.

Sieler joined the Dolphins in 2019 off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens. During his seven seasons in Miami, Sieler has developed into a full-time starter the last two seasons. Last season, he recorded 55 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble. It was the second-straight season Sieler recorded double-digit sack mark in his career.

In 2023, Sieler signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $38.65 million.

Sieler, a seventh-round pick in 2018, is the first Dolphins player to record consecutive seasons of 10-plus sacks since Cameron Wake in 2016-17. The 32-year-old defensive tackle ranked 14th among defensive linemen with 46 pressures, per Pro Football Focus.

Miami's defense has added some new pieces this offseason. The Dolphins acquired safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, add linebacker K.J. Britt and drafted defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips.

The Dolphins 2024 defensive unit was forced to step up with pass rusher Jaelan Phillips suffering a knee injury and Bradley Chubb (ACL) missing the campaign. Sieler took command of the defense as he led the team in sacks (10), QB hits (19) and tackles for loss (13). The Dolphins saw Sieler's production rise and rewarded him with a long-term contract.

With Sieler locking in a new deal before the season begins, the veteran DT can play with no worries financially heading into his eighth NFL season.
