One of the most decorated pass rushers in NFL lore is headed to the nation's capital.
Eight-time Pro Bowler Von Miller is signing with the Washington Commanders, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday evening. Miller's deal is for one year, $6.1 million and includes a chance to make $10.5 million in incentives, Rapoport added Saturday.
Released by the Buffalo Bills this offseason, Miller is now slated to join his fourth career squad after rising to stardom and claiming a Super Bowl MVP with the Denver Broncos and winning his second career Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.
Miller, 36, is looking for one more run at a third Lombardi Trophy and joins a Commanders squad that believes its title window is open after an NFC Championship Game run a season ago that was buoyed by 2024 first-round quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Those were Miller's best laid plans when he joined the Bills ahead of the 2022 season, but injuries and likely age led to just 14 sacks in three years with zero starts and 25 games played over the past two seasons.
In nine-plus years with Denver, Miller became one of the pass-rushing elite and carved out a Hall of Fame-worthy tenure that included seven double-digit-sack seasons, eight Pro Bowl selections, three All-Pro accolades and the Super Bowl 50 MVP.
Shipped to the Rams during the 2021 season, Miller provided an extra oomph off the edge during L.A.'s Super Bowl-winning campaign. That essentially landed him in Buffalo with a lucrative deal.
He was released in March in a cost-cutting move and now heads to Washington, where he will combine with Bobby Wagner for a 2015-ish fever dream of a pairing. The two have a combined 18 Pro Bowls, nine All-Pros, been to a total of four Super Bowls and have played a whopping 26 total seasons.
However, Miller will look to add to a pass rush that, at least on paper, could use some punch as it currently features a slew of other veteran additions from last offseason or the most recent, such as Dorance Armstrong, Deatrich Wise, Clelin Ferrell and Jacob Martin.
Having lost 2024 leading sacker Dante Fowler in free agency, the Commanders are bringing in the NFL's active sack leader.
Whatever Miller's got left in the tank, head coach Dan Quinn and Washington are hoping to get it out of him for a playoff run.
